Paid Music Practitioner
Help young people in care feel safe, have fun and enjoy creating their own music.
Apply for this role →Make music. Have fun. Make a difference.
We're looking for rappers, singers and vocal artists who love making music and want to share that enjoyment with young people. These are not formal lessons or pressure to complete a track. We create a safe, welcoming environment where young people can be themselves, try new things, and have fun making music.
Rap & songwriting
Explore bars, rhymes, flow, lyrics and storytelling.
Singing & vocals
Experiment with melodies, microphones and vocal confidence.
Fun and creativity
Let young people choose their own pace, express themselves and enjoy music without pressure.
Safe supportive space
Build trust, listen, encourage and follow safeguarding and professional boundaries.
How you'll work
You'll initially deliver sessions alongside Niall and work towards independent delivery only after the appropriate safeguarding checks, training, assessment and formal approval. Opportunities will mainly involve travelling to project locations in Nottingham and surrounding areas, depending on commissioned work.
Who we're looking for
People with practical experience in rapping, singing or vocal work who are reliable, patient, approachable and willing to learn. Youth-work experience and formal music qualifications are welcome but not essential. You don't need a record deal or large following.
Training and safeguarding
Onboarding is tailored to your needs. For some experienced applicants, around two introductory sessions may be enough; others may need additional supported practice. Training covers safeguarding, trauma-informed approaches, boundaries and positive creative sessions. All appointments are subject to appropriate checks, references and the relevant DBS process. Arrangements for mandatory training time will be confirmed in line with applicable legal requirements.
Pay, progression and contracts
This is a freelance, contracted sessional opportunity with no guaranteed hours. Agreed session delivery is paid at £20 per hour initially, £25 for experienced practitioners and up to £30 for approved lead responsibilities. Progression depends on assessed skills and responsibilities, not time served. Preparation, travel or other work will only be included where separately agreed in writing, subject to applicable legal requirements. Contract and engagement terms will be confirmed before accepting sessions.
